Hello! I’m Taylor Gomes, founder of Hiking Medic—a company that came from the combination of my upbringing in the mountains, my love for the wild, and my over a decade of work as an wildland emergency responder.

My mission is to break down hiking and outdoors information I’ve learned from my experience as a hiker, backpacker, paramedic, father, and fellow adventure enthusiast and deliver that information in easy-to-understand ways for hikers and adventure seekers of all experience levels.
A Little of How I got Here
Journey to Paramedic
My EMS career began 15 years ago when I joined my Emergency Medical Technician class and became an EMT-Basic. I got a job and worked side by side with paramedics, assisting them, and quickly knew I needed to reach the top of my craft…paramedic. I then attended UCLA Daniel Freeman Paramedic School and started my paramedic career. Through my 11 years as a paramedic, I have worked in Critical Care Transport, local EMS systems, FEMA deployments, large-scale wildland fires, and more.
The Mountains Are Calling, and I Must Go…

Nature wasn’t just a backdrop; it was my canvas for exploration and a sanctuary where life’s lessons unfolded. Naturally, hiking quickly became my favorite pastime, and my curiosity to explore and wander only grew from there…
Disaster Response Deployment
My journey took an even more profound turn when I began disaster response deployments. For the last 8 years, I have deployed to large-scale hurricanes, wildland fires, and various crisis deployments during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was in these moments that I realized there is another need, and that need is education.
The Birth of Hiking Medic
The birth of Hiking Medic was a combination of all the above. Bringing my professional life and my personal life together to provide a truly unique and complete approach to the outdoors in general and especially hiking.
